The Power In Your Strengths

So I have had the opportunity to work through an online marketing course by Marie Forleo called B-School and it's been amazing! It has opened my eyes, challenged and inspired me in so many ways and I am only a little over a week in!

One of the things they really emphasize as you are starting off is figuring out what your strengths are. As we go through life, looking for jobs, following our dreams, pursuing passions, making friends, starting families, and growing as individuals it can be so helpful to know what we are innately good at. Strengths are things that come naturally and usually fill you up when you have the opportunity to do life in a way that highlights them.

It is interesting though because despite knowing what you are good at and what you enjoy, you might not be living life in a way that allows you to share your strengths as much as you could. This could be a job, relationship, or even a friendship that is more of a drain then it is a joy. There are often so many things that we get ourselves into that looking back on we realize was not best for us.

I am not saying that we should only go into situations that allow us to use our strengths and there is beauty in working through our weaknesses BUT I do think there are things that would serve us better if they allowed us to be our best selves. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone had a job that was truly great for them and they loved, was in a relationship or friendship that allowed them to be their most genuine and best selves? I think so!

So how do you determine your strengths if you are unsure? More than likely you have a lot of strengths but most people tend to highlight their top 5 and that's what will have the most impact on how you operate and what you are good at. There are a couple of ways you can determine this and I encourage you to do both!

  • Strengths Finder Test! This seems like a duh haha but a lot of people haven't taken this! There are many out there but the one linked is the most trusted and common. It will tell you your top 5 strengths and then break them down, give you ways to grow in those areas and give you insight on how you operate because of them. I loved doing this, and all of them made sense but confirmed what I was good at and allowed me to focus on creating a life and job that highlighted those things!

My top 5 strengths are:

  1. Woo (winning others over)
  2. Communication
  3. Futuristic
  4. Positivity
  5. Includer
  • The second thing you can do is ask your friends and family! I had to send out an email to 20 people (ekkk) and ask them what they thought my "superpowers" were! This was a little scary because you honestly have no idea what people will say but what everyone wrote back was so sweet and there were a lot of common ones, so again I was able to get a bigger picture of the things people thought I was naturally good at!

When we know what our strengths are we can build so many things off of that! A job we love and a partner who compliments us and friendships that mesh naturally! We can know how to bless our friends and family and offer our help and support to those around us!

It is such an eye-opening experience and will hopefully give you clarity if you are curious and if anything maybe give you a little confidence boost to see the things that you are naturally good at!

So what are some of your strengths? How do you see these playing out in your life?

xx
